Going to the Dogs!!!

Hand forging little uglie dog heads is enjoyable and functional.   The  heads can be used on hooks, pokers, key fobs, candle holders, etc.

These seven little uglie dogs were made for back scratcher and steak turner handles,
Step 1.  Forge end of 3/8" X 3/8" mild steed bar to a thickness of about 1/4".
Step 2.  Upset the end, it should be some what domed.
Step 3.   Position the snout about (about 1" of it)  on the anvil at about a 30 degree angle (on the diamond).  Forge 3-4 hits using half face blows.  Turn 90 degrees  counter clockwise and repeat.
Eyes are punched with a nail set.  Nostrils are forged with a sharpened nail set.  Mouth is a shallow slit, forged with a chisel.  Note: a curved "walking chisel" is used.
Both sides of the face are  forged about equal, but if not it gives the face character.
